This wonderful life

Because life is so much more than work, political opinions, and academic achievements. This page is meant to give you a glimpse into my life at home, hobbies, passions, and friends. More photos coming soon…

Bolder Boulder
My sons and I have run the Bolder Boulder together many times. I used to carry my younger son in a backpack, while my older son and I dressed up for the race each year. It remains one of our favorite weekends together.

Siblings
I am lucky to have the best siblings in the world. This year, they flew out for my graduation from graduate school (one sister absent in this photo). I cannot imagine life without them, or the many wonderful nieces and nephews they have given me.

Top-Tier Congressmen
Working with Representative Neguse was the honor of a lifetime, and I still consider him a dear friend. I also had the chance to meet Representative Jamie Raskin several times and admire him so much that I named my dog after him.

BRCA
I have a BRCA gene mutation and a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer, so I went full Angelina Jolie and had a preventive double mastectomy and my ovaries removed. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, but I trust doctors and science.

Electronics
During COVID, I taught myself Arduino coding and started making electronic art. These lightboxes use an open circuit, and because our bodies conduct electricity, they light up when you touch both sides. You can even hold hands with someone else & each touch one side to complete the circuit.

Bramily
My partner, Natalie, and I love Brandi Carlile and the whole Bramily. Last year, we went to her festival in Mexico and loved being surrounded by so many like-minded people. It was basically lesbian summer camp in the winter.

Family - built
Together, my partner and I have four kids, ages 12, 10, 7, and 4. I finally have girls in my life, and I love it. Here we are at a Turkey Trot in California, where I pushed the youngest in a stroller while blasting “Golden” the whole way.

Family - OG
My boys have the best dad in the world. We grew up together and remain dear friends. Two years ago, we almost lost him in a motorcycle accident. He is strong, doctors are angels, and we are incredibly grateful he is still with us.

Chapstick and Whisky
For 13 years, a group of friends and I have met in the Fruita desert for an annual camping trip we call “Chapstick and Whisky” because around the campfire, the two most common requests are “pass the chapstick” and “pass the whisky.”

Red Rocks
I love live music. This was a great night at Red Rocks with my wonderful campaign treasurer, Erika Blum. We saw the Avett Brothers, who grew up near my hometown and played at my William & Mary graduation.

Grad School
Going to graduate school was a dream come true. I had my first son while I was an undergraduate, so this goal had been on my bucket list for 20 years. I am pictured here with my advisor, Jennifer Fluri, who has co-written important pieces about Boulder. My thesis traced 150 years of land-use decisions in the city.

Friends
I have the best friends in the world. With this crew, I have raised kids, traveled, adventured, and celebrated countless birthdays. We have also supported one another through loss and hard times. I will always be grateful for each of them.

Paragliding in Rio
One of my best friends grew up in Rio and was a competitive paraglider. I got to stay with her and her family and meet her flying community a couple of years ago. I love Rio. The mix of people, nature, music, and grit is intoxicating.

Municipalization
I was an active part of the municipalization effort 10 years ago. I still believe Boulder should form its own utility. A locally owned utility would answer to us, not to distant shareholders. I believe we'd see fewer power shutoffs if our grid were managed by people accountable to this community.

Date Night at Food Lab
Food Lab is one of our favorite date night spots in Boulder. We recently learned how to make mussels and other Parisian cuisine at "Date Night in Paris." Owner Casey Easton has built something special here, and I'd love to see more local businesses like this one thrive in Boulder.
